Daneri Mortuary
Raymond Dean Chambers
April 24th, 1935 - June 11th, 2025
Raymond Dean Chambers, 90, of Sutter Creek, CA (formerly of Bedford, IN), passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson, CA.
Born April 24, 1935, in Bedford, IN, he was the beloved son of Frances Chambers. He was a proud graduate of Needmore High School class of '53 and wore his high school ring until the day he died. At twenty-five, he enlisted in the Army and served two terms, which took him to Ethiopia and Vietnam. After his military service, he relocated to Long Beach, CA, married, and raised his two daughters. During this time, he spent over thirty years working for the US Postal Service, moonlighting as a bartender, cosmetologist, and real estate agent.
Although Ray tried to hide it, he had a kind and compassionate heart. After retiring and moving to Sutter Creek, he volunteered as an ombudsman for the Area 12 Agency on Aging and for the Interfaith Food Bank. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion, and AMVETS.
He was a member of the Gullets Creek Baptist Church and was baptized there in 2003.
He appreciated and enjoyed a hot, sunny day, a good laugh, good Westerns, classic country music, and sitting on the porch (or under a shade tree) watching the world go by.
His loving memory will be cherished by his life partner, Joan Finney; daughters, Gayle Pierucci (Rick) and Ralene Challinor (Andy); grandchildren, Lenox and Sofia; sister-in-law, Betty Chambers; niece, Rebecca Chambers; nephew, Tim Chambers; and all who knew him as Uncle Ray and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Chambers, and his brother, Rudy Chambers.
Daneri Mortuary in Jackson, CA, was entrusted with transporting the remains to Bedford, Indiana. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, June 30, in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary, with Pastor David Ferry officiating. Members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33 will accord military rites. Burial will follow in the Hopkins Cemetery in Needmore. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
