Wendell Lloyd Creager passed away peacefully at home on June 23, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on November 16, 1940, in Sullivan, Indiana. Wendell, the son of a coal miner, grew up on a farm in sleepy Dugger Indiana. As a young man a short stint in college left him realizing that playing cards does not make the grades. He set out looking for a job and worked in a few different steel mills. His next big adventure involved bootcamp, short hair, world travel and a carton of cigarettes each payday.

Wendell proudly served in the Marine Corp. Once a Marine, always a Marine. After completing his time in service, he moved to St. Petersburg where he lived, worked, and raised a family for over 60 years. Wendell was a man of integrity and dedication, traits that were evident throughout his 24-year career with the St. Petersburg Police Department. Starting as a patrolman, he quickly made his mark as a narcotics detective and later as a public information officer, earning numerous awards and acknowledgments. His career didn’t end there; he continued to serve his community as a State Attorney investigator for another 15 years before retiring. Wendell's commitment to his profession and community was unwavering. He was a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge and supported initiatives like Tunnels to Towers, demonstrating his deep sense of duty and compassion.

In 1963, Wendell married the love of his life, Gail, and together they built a life filled with joy and adventure. They welcomed their daughter, Melodie, in 1966, who brought endless pride and happiness into their lives. Wendell was not only a devoted husband and father but also a cherished grandfather to River Grace Creager Good and Victoria Rain Creager Good, whom he adored immensely. His beloved nephew, Steve Arnett, also held a special place in his heart.

Wendell enjoyed fishing and being a supporter of the Bucs and the Rays. He never missed a dance recital or an opportunity to take an awkward picture.

Known for his humor and friendly demeanor, Wendell was a jokester at heart, always ready with a quick wit and a warm smile. He was laid-back and approachable, qualities that made him a good friend to many. His ability to connect with people and his genuine nature left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Wendell's life will be celebrated on Monday August 4, 2025, at 11:30 am, at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home, located at 7820 38th Ave N, St. Petersburg. Family, friends, and all those whose lives Wendell touched are invited to gather in remembrance of him.

As we say goodbye, we remember Wendell as a man who looked for the best in others and always gave the best he had. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
