Preston Wayne Chandler, Jr.
January 6th, 1967 - June 23rd, 2025
After a long hard fight with cancer, we lost our Wayne.
Wayne was born in Anniston, Alabama to Preston W. Chandler, Sr. and Mildred L. Chandler. He also had a very proud older sister, Twana G. Hughes. All three preceded him in death and I am sure were there to greet him as he crossed over.
Wayne worked as a maintenance man for many years privately and for the hotel industry. He loved greeting everyone he met with a Hello. He also worked as a Roll Back Truck driver for a few years of his life, which he enjoyed very much.
Wayne loved all kinds of animals especially his dogs “Bama” and “Tilly” who were a great comfort to him in his final days.
In 2003, he met Michelle, and it didn’t take long for him to win her heart. He took on the role of husband & father to her three children. In 2009, he became Papa (his proudest role) and five more times after that. Wayne loved Alabama Football and was a lifelong fan of the Crimson Tide! Whenever he would see someone in Alabama Attire, he would yell out, “ROLL TIDE”! He was always loyal to everything he loved! Family, Friends, Football, and Animals; even the choice of beverage; seeing him without a Pepsi was rare.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Michelle Chandler, his three stepchildren, Robin Sutherland (Alishea), Karie A. Sutherland, Alexandra L Sutherland, and his six grandsons, Shawn M. Sutherland, Parker J. Sutherland, Christopher K. Barnes, Bryce T Glover, Preston D Glover and Braydon J Davis; niece, Kim Hughes & her wife Britney Hughes and two great nephews, Hayden T Hughes and Triston E Nelson and his adopted son, Bryston Glover. He loved all of them very much!
We also need to mention our very special friends, Brenda & Ed Strube, who were a constant source of support for Wayne & Michelle throughout every aspect of their lives.
There will be a small family memorial to scatter some of his ashes in the future in Anniston, AL so he can be with his family.
A friend has set up a GoFundMe that you can find on Facebook or you can contact Michelle directly. She could use the support right now (even if it’s just a phone call).
