Nicholas “Ray” Raymond Undis, age 92 of West St. Paul, MN. Ray passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025. He lived a long and spirited life enjoying things to the very fullest. He was devoted to his family, had a long and loyal career, and was often in the pursuit of one of his many hobbies.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Dorothy; brothers, Jim and LeRoy; son, Daniel; and daughter, Linda. He will be enjoying his reunion in heaven with all of his beloved family but particularly his son and daughter who he missed fiercely. Ray is survived by his wife of 72 years, Ilene. He is also survived by his son, Ralph; grandchildren, Molly (Michael), Anthony (Ada), and Andrea (Dylan); and great-grandchildren, Brigid, Isabel, and Ivy. Ray loved visiting with his family but particularly enjoyed the last few years when he could spend time with his great-grandchildren, which he considered a blessing.

Ray was born on October 22, 1932. He was the middle child of three sons born to Dorothy and Nicholas. He married Ilene on June 20, 1953, and they had three children. Ray began work at the age of 18 and worked for the same company for the next 46 years. He worked at a printing company called National Checking that primarily made and printed Guest Checks for restaurants. He was very hard-working and enjoyed a long career at a company he loved.

When he was not working or with his family, you could often find Ray active in one of his many hobbies. Ray loved airplanes and spent countless hours building and flying his remote control airplanes. His airplanes were works of art, and he was a perfectionist in getting all of the details right. He was active in building and flying his planes up until his death at the age of 92.

He also loved being out on the water whether it was just to drive around in his boat or to spend time fishing. Summers were often spent at a lake or on the river either pulling his kids on tubes and water skis or finding the perfect fishing spot. Ray would also spend time getting everyone’s fishing rod set-up just right with one of his many lures or jigs. He was a curious person by nature, so the joy in his hobbies was not just in doing them but in learning everything there was to learn about them.

Ray was also an avid bow and arrow hunter. He would craft his arrows with beautifully feathered fletchings and loved to spend hours up in a deer stand enjoying nature. He would often tell stories about his experiences hunting to any and all who would listen.

We will miss our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather greatly but feel blessed that he lived a full life. We will take his lessons and stories with us as we navigate life without him.

A Mass of Christian burial to honor Ray’s life will be held at Church of the Assumption, 51 7th St. W., St. Paul, MN on Tuesday, July 1 at 10 AM. Visitation will be held directly before the service at 9 AM. Memorials can be made to: Neighborhood House, 179 Robie St. E., St. Paul; or Community of Saints Catholic School, 335 Hurley St. E., West St. Paul.

Since 1886, the Willwerscheid family has helped Saint Paul families navigate grief and plan funerals, cremation services, and life celebration services. Our business was started by John Adam Willwerscheid, a second generation American and father of eight over 100 years ago. While a lot has changed since then, our commitment to caring for families hasn't. We know that finding the right funeral home is important, and we are grateful that families continue to trust us to take care of their loved ones....
