Michael Gilbert Bettez, age 71, of Wesley Chapel, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025. Born on July 16, 1953, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Michael lived a life defined by service, dedication, and love for his family and country.During his military service, he received a Bachelor's in History and a Master's in Logistics Management. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Michael served with honor for 28 years, before retiring as a Colonel in 2005. His distinguished military career included assignments in Haiti, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), and Operation Iraqi Freedom. His commitment and bravery earned him numerous awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (5th award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Superior Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal (3rd award), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, and many more. Michael’s military education was extensive and reflected his deep commitment to professional excellence. He completed Officer Candidate School, the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Ordnance Officer Advanced Course, Combined Arms Service Staff School, Logistics Executive Development Course, Command and General Staff College, Jump Master Course, and the U.S. Army War College.Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 21 years, Brenda Bettez; his daughters Amy Bettez-Marlin, Jennifer Johnson (Jamey), and Eryn Bettez-Bell (Jordan); and stepsons Jerry Montsdeoca Jr. and Matthew Montsdeoca. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Cameron, Garrett, Josslyn, Miles, Maddie, Islay, and Jerry III. He is also survived by his sister, Vicki Simpson (Joel).He is preceded in death by his parents, Gil and Jean Bettez; his brother, Richard Bettez; and sister, Marjorie Whitman.In his earlier years, Michael enjoyed cooking and experimenting with new recipes, playing golf, watching sports of any kind, and most of all, spending quality time with his family and friends. He took great pride in his military service and cherished the bonds he formed throughout his life.A visitation will be held on **Thursday, July 3rd, 2025**, at Loyless Funeral Home in Land O' Lakes, Florida, from **11:00 AM to 12:30 PM**, followed by a military honors burial at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
