David William Johnston

In Loving Memory
David William Johnston, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home on June 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 24, 1942, in East Liverpool, Ohio, David was the son of the late Bill and Mary Johnston. He was a 1960 graduate of Wellsville High School and proudly served in the United States Navy for 13 years.
Dave had a passion for NASCAR racing, enjoyed playing cards, and most of all, found great joy in cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Donna Caruso Johnston, and his children: David Johnston, Jr. of Columbia, SC; Diane Choi (Jon) of Austintown, OH; Debbie Soltez (Frank) of Garfield Heights, OH; Carla Neff (Daniel) of Lexington, SC; Missy Freeman (Tim) of Gilbert, SC; and Shawn Wilson (Laurie) of Gilbert, SC.
Dave was a proud grandfather to Zachary Baker (Casey), Travis Clark (Kashmir), Cody Clark, Tristan Higgins, Lauren Brightwell (Colin), Andrew McClain, Abby McClain, Alexis Freeman, TJ Freeman (Ansley), Reagan Wilson, and Shawn Michael Wilson. He also leaves behind one great-grandson, Dominic Brightwell.
He is survived by his sister, Susan Carroll (Jerry), and sister-in-law, Linda Johnston. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rich Johnston.
A Catholic Mass will be held in his honor on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2350 Augusta Hwy, Lexington, SC 29072. The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Abby Road Hospice, 5429 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.
