Beers and Story - South Hadley
Margot A Garstka
August 15th, 1944 - July 1st, 2025
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Margot A. (Cambo) Garstka, age 80, on July 1, 2025. Born on August 15, 1944, in Holyoke, MA, Margot was the beloved daughter of Walter H. and Annette L. (Pariseau) Cambo, both of whom predeceased her. Margot grew up in South Hadley and later moved to Chicopee, where she continued to cherish her roots. She devoted over three decades to a fulfilling career in the Personnel Department at the University of Massachusetts and concluded her service at Hampshire College. Following her retirement, she and her late husband, Robert, founded Grandmary's Bed & Breakfast, a venture that brought them immense joy and the opportunity to share their love of hospitality with many guests. Margot was more than her professional achievements; she was a mother to Michael Kelly and a stepmother to James (Noelle) Garstka and Thomas Garstka. She also found delight in being a grandmother to Jessica McLaughlin (John), Kathryn Kelly Francesconi (Jacob), Kyle Lindholm, and her grandchildren, Amelia, James, and Caroline Garstka. Margot's legacy continues with her great-grandchildren, Eamon and Lucy Francesconi. She is also remembered by her sister, Geraldine Allen, brother-in-law, Buzz Sawyer and her extended family, which includes countless nieces, nephews, in-laws, and dear friends, Mary Jane Quinn and Lorraine Weimann. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her siblings, Paul, David and Susan Cambo, Joyce Sawyer and Jeanie Begos. A talented cook and passionate painter, Margot always brought warmth into the lives of those around her, from her festive holiday meals—famously preparing prime rib for 40 on Christmas—to her beautifully crafted oil paintings. She cherished the winter months spent in Florida and was faithfully accompanied by her beloved dog, Daisy, who brought her daily companionship and joy. Visitation will be held on July 11 from 3 PM to 6 PM at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, concluding with a prayer service. A graveside service will take place on Saturday, July 12, at 10 AM at Island Pond Cemetery. Kindly meet directly at the cemetery. For those wishing, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
