Joyce E. Waun passed away peacefully with her family by her side, at Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City, AZ, on June 18, 2025, at the age of 92.

Joyce was the daughter of the late Chester Miller and Violet (Ford) Miller. She was born October 7, 1932, in Boston, MA. Two years later, her mother married Clyde Bailey.

Joyce grew up on a farm in Hudson, New Hampshire. A few years later, Clyde moved the family to Massachusetts. She attended Chelmsford High School and was the captain of the basketball team. In 1950, she led the Chelmsford Lions to the state championship and came in second place.

Joyce attended church on Sundays and was in the church choir. This is where she met Chuck Waun. Chuck was in the Army at the time and also in the choir. She was in the back row, and he was in the front row. They liked to flirt with each other and eventually fell in love.

When the Army sent Chuck to his new duty station in Germany, he and Joyce kept in touch by writing to one another, and in one of these letters, Joyce received a marriage proposal from Chuck. Joyce took a plane to Germany, and they were married on February 3, 1959, in a civil ceremony at the Registrar's office in Baumholder. The marriage lasted 59 years and produced three sons: Ken, Jim, and Bob.

They spent the next fourteen months in Germany, and were able to take trips to Munich for Oktoberfest, go skiing in Garmisch, and explore Paris and Rome.

After Chuck's Army enlistment was over, he got a job with IBM. Over the next 28 years, Chuck's job sent the family to New Mexico, California, Arizona, New York, and back to Arizona.

In 1993, Chuck retired from IBM, and he and Joyce moved to a retirement community in Sun City. They remained active in the community; Chuck joining the Sun City Sheriff's Posse and Joyce joining various clubs at the recreation center. Joyce made a number of friends after joining the dance for fitness club, birthday club, and taking tai chi classes.

Joyce's hobbies included: painting, calligraphy, Thursday night bingo, lottery scratchers, slots at various casinos, and card games. Joyce enjoyed watching golf, the Arizona Cardinals, and Diamondbacks.

Joyce is survived by her sons Jim and Bob, half sister Barbara Childs, daughter-in-law Linda Waun, sister-in-law Vicki Waun, grandson Phillip Waun, and many nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Chuck (2018), son Ken (2021), half brother Chester B. Miller (2012) and half sister Nancy Lawrence (2021).

Joyce will be sorely missed.
