Ricky Glenn Martin
November 17th, 1950 - June 29th, 2025
With broken hearts and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Ricky Glenn Martin, who left us on June 29, 2025, at the age of 74.Ricky was born on November 17, 1950, to Ralph and Sue Martin in Charleston, South Carolina. After graduating from Garret High School, Ricky proudly completed service in the U.S. Army and began a 35+ year business career in ocean freight & logistics.Ricky was a talented musician, playing both drums and trumpet, and was a member of an area band that he helped form, “The Night Shift,” for several years in his early life. He also shared his musical gifts with various churches he belonged to. He was a loyal fan of the Green Bay Packers and USC Gamecocks, steadily watching their games throughout his life. An avid bird lover, Ricky enjoyed reading books about them and once raised almost two dozen homing pigeons in his backyard. A longtime resident of West Ashley, Ricky’s friendly face was a familiar sight to many in his community. From his bankers to his doctors and nurses at the VA Medical Center, wait staff at is favorite neighborhood restaurant, and even the cashiers at his regular grocery store, he was affectionately known as “Ricky G.” He often brought small gifts to those he interacted with, and never missed a chance to make someone laugh with one of his silly jokes or stories. Above all else, Ricky was a loving and devoted father and grandfather whose greatest joy came from spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was known for keeping and cherishing his children’s report cards, greeting cards, and milestone keepsakes from his grandchildren’s lives. Through these small acts of love, Ricky demonstrated to everyone what dedication to family truly looks like. His three beloved children survive Ricky: Holly Martin (William) of Charleston, Tara Hubara (Ofer) of Charlotte, and Austin Martin (Stevee) of Charleston, as well as his nine precious grandchildren: Taylor (Andre), Brandon, Caitlin, Oren, Liat, Travis, Lucas, Jack, Graham, and his firstborn great-grandson, Jett; his adoring twin sisters, Patty Burn (Harry), and Nancy Wiegand (Leonard) both of Charleston, and many nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by everyone he loved. Following cremation, a funeral service will be held at Coastal Community Church in West Ashley on Saturday, July 12, at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Disabled American Veterans organization are appreciated.
