Elmer "Big E" Eldridge, a beloved friend, admired business leader, and passionate devotee of life, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on July 6, 2025, in Redington Beach, Florida. Born to humble roots on September 25, 1943, in Davenport, OK, Elmer's incredible journey through life embodied the inspirational American narrative—truly a remarkable tale of hard work, resilience, and an unyielding determination to succeed.

Raised in McGehee, Arkansas, as the son of a sharecropper, Elmer learned the value of perseverance and dedication at an early age. Graduating from McGehee High School, Elmer chose employment over higher education, frequently jesting that he attended "UCLA—Upper Corner of Lower Arkansas." This gentle, warm humor was a defining trait for all who knew and loved "Big E."

Elmer began his illustrious business career at Sears in 1961, initially working as a dockhand in Little Rock, AR. Through tireless work and exceptional tenacity, he quickly climbed the ranks. His upward journey led him to leadership positions in Baton Rouge, LA; Greensboro, NC; and Orlando, FL, culminating in his promotion to President of Kenmore in Chicago, IL, a position from which he retired in 1993. Colleagues admired his leadership and appreciated his role in fostering workplace inclusivity, standing at the forefront of changes that addressed segregation and expanded opportunities for women, a legacy he proudly championed.

Never content to rest entirely, Elmer embraced a second chapter of executive leadership with Whirlpool Corporation in 1995. This new career journey took him internationally, starting as Head of Whirlpool Canada, based in Toronto, then as President of the UK and Ireland divisions, and later as President of Whirlpool Europe in Milan, Italy. Eventually, he served as President of Whirlpool Mexico and Central America in Monterrey before retiring definitively in 2011 to care for his wife of 51 years, Paula, until her passing.

Throughout his life, Elmer embodied his personal mottos: "Can Do," "Play to Win," and "Refuse to Lose." These guided him to global success and placed him in richly diverse experiences that most can only dream of achieving.

An avid traveler who savored a good glass of red wine and an enthusiastic NFL football fan, Elmer's zest for life was infectious. He lived with positivity and genuine joy, earning deep respect and friendship from all walks of life. He truly "never met a stranger," welcoming each person into his circle with open arms.

In 2014, Elmer settled in Redington Beach, FL, eager for the comfort of sea breeze and soothing Gulf rhythms. Though he lost his eyesight entirely in 2023 due to a rare illness, Elmer lived joyfully relying on cherished memories, loving companionship, and the serene sounds of the Gulf waves.

He is survived by his loving partner of eleven cherished years, Leslie Pinkerton; his devoted sister, Nellie Ruth Dipert; and his best friend of over fifty years, Mary Ann Hearn. Elmer was preceded in death by his wife, Paula Ann Tousineaux Eldridge, his son, Gregory Elmer Eldridge, and his parents, Elmer Eldridge Sr. and Virginia Hamilton Eldridge.

In his final years, Elmer split time between Redington Beach and Nashville, Tennessee, embodying the essence of living life fully, even as challenges heightened. His closing sentiments inspire profoundly: "Living in darkness is possible with love, friendship, and a love for life and memories through the years."

Celebrations of Elmer's life and countless friendships will be held at three cherished locations of his choosing in the months ahead. Friends, memories, and stories lovingly shared will ensure Big E's extraordinary legacy endures.
