It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Theresa Dorothy (Pobieglo) Sousa, who left this world on July 8, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on January 31, 1930, in Three Rivers, MA, she was the cherished daughter of Stanislaus and Rozalia (Wilga) Pobieglo, and beloved sister to her many siblings, all of whom have predeceased her.

Theresa dedicated her life to her family and her faith. After growing up in Three Rivers, Theresa married Armando Sousa at the age of 19 and became a lifelong resident of Monson. Theresa created a home for her children: Michael Sousa, John (Julie) Sousa, Dolores Scott, Barbara (Leo) Boudreau, and Carolyn (Eric) Whittemore. There was not a week that went by without Theresa bringing her children to the library to ensure they had plenty to read! She was also a wonderful story-teller and would entertain her young children with stories of when she was young. In addition to her children, Theresa took great pride in being a grandmother to eight grandchildren and a great-grandmother to one, with another great-grandson expected in September.

Driven by a profound faith, Theresa was an active member of the Rosary Sodality at Divine Mercy Church, where she found community and purpose.

Theresa had a creative spirit which shone through in her many interests, including watercolor painting, playing the piano, cake decorating, and flower gardening. She was athletic and loved swimming and ice skating! An adventurous soul, Theresa enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, travelling, airplane rides with Michael, and her most favorite of all, riding on the back of Michael’s motorcycle! Well into her 80’s she enjoyed many summer’s worth of motorcycle rides which provided many happy memories and stories. She often exclaimed that these were the best summers of her life! When no longer able to enjoy motorcycle rides Theresa enjoyed listening to music. She especially loved going to Michael’s apartment and listening to NPR’s Tiny Desk Series, her favorite of which was The Tower of Power! At the age of 93 Theresa took a trip to Laconia NH to attend a live Tower of Power concert to answer the eternal question “What is Hip?”

Theresa was a special person; she was smart, funny, kind to a fault, and her loss is felt deeply by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in her memory to the Monson Senior Center.  A funeral Mass will be held Monday July 14th 2025 at Divine Mercy Church at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery.  Kindly meet directly at the church.  Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
