Marcia Hawley Thompson
May 14th, 1934 - July 6th, 2025
Marcia (Sue) Thompson passed away on July 6th, 2025, at the age of 91, in Tega Cay SC. Born in Pittsburgh PA on May 14, 1934, Sue was devoted to her husband and family, her church, and her entrepreneurial career.
Sue grew up in Pittsburgh with her brother, sister, and dad. She attended Ohio University and then transferred to Pitt to receive her Teaching Degree, and be with her beloved future husband Milt. She and Milt married in 1955, and were married for 69 years, until Milt’s passing in 2024.
Beginning her career as a teacher, Sue took a break to raise their three children, Danny, David and Diane. She was a regular fixture at her kids’ activities and sporting events and ran a tight ship at home. When the kids were old enough to be self-sufficient, the entrepreneurial spirit took hold.
After a few office jobs, Sue began to work retail shows with friends. From there, she made and bought her own products and began doing shows herself. After an empty nest and many requests by long time show customers,
Sue and Milt took a leap of faith and opened the store “Christmas in Blowing Rock” located in Blowing Rock NC. It was successful and still exists in Blowing Rock under the ownership of Sue’s former manager.
Sue was also devoted to her church and served in many different capacities over the years: choir member, Sunday School teacher, choir director, Deacon, Member of the Women’s fellowship, and attic sale professional pricer. Sue and her husband Milt were heavily involved on the committee that created SouthPark Christian Church, and were founding members.
Sue was a devoted wife and mother. Her husband Milt and son Danny preceded her in death. She is survived by her son David, daughter Diane, sister Penny Barr (Gary Tate), brother Bud (Danielle) Hawley, and many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank all of Sue’s Caregivers, and the staff at Wellmore Tega Cay, Always Best Care and Via Healthcare for the tender and loving care they showed to Sue.
A service with reception following, will be held Friday, July 25, 2025 at 2:00pm at South Park Christian Church,
6650 Park South Dr., Charlotte NC 29210

The growth of our service and the community's support led to our move in March 1963 to the current location—once St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, built in 1930. Our chapel, a cherished historic landmark within the storied Dilworth neighborhood, is renowned for being the only funeral home in Charlotte graced with its own chapel, echoing with decades of history and serenity....
