Carole Blevins Sweeney was born on March 21, 1941, in Payne Gap, Kentucky to Lee and Nona Blevins. Later raised in Kingsport, Tennessee and graduating from Lynn View High School in 1959. She attended business school and moved to Washington DC working for the Federal Government including being secretary to the Surgeon General of the United States until she retired in 1997.  

 

She returned home in 1999 living in Mount Carmel, Tennessee until passing away on July 8th at Holston Valley Hospital. Carole was known for her outspoken, independent, and generous spirit.  

 

She was proceeded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle Sweeney; her sister, Jean Quillen; her brother, Jack Blevins and his wife, Anna; her great nephew, Jack Ray Blevins; and dear friends, Ron and Kathy. 

 

Carole is survived by her beloved pup, Harley; her nephews, Steven Quillen (Jolynn), and Michael Quillen (Tammy), Richard Blevins (Penny), and Randy Blevins; her niece, Lisa Slagle (Greg); her great niece, Heather Quillen Bishop (Brian) and her children, Peyton and Michael McClellan, and Chelsea Blevins Rapcan (Nick); great nephews, Tyler Moats and Jameson, Robbie Blevins (Kat) and family, Ben Blevins (Sarah); and numerous other great and great, great nieces, nephews, and many friends. 

 

 In lieu of flowers, please donate to local animal shelters in Carole’s honor as that was her greatest love. 

 

A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 11:00 am at East Lawn Memorial Park with Brother David Dotson officiating.  Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 am.
