Heinz Bruno Piehl went home to be with our Lord on July 7, 2025. He passed peacefully at home in Berthoud, Colorado. Heinz was born on July12, 1934 to Bruno and Suzannah (Henneberg) Piehl in Forest Park, Illinois. He was a graduate of Proviso High School in Maywood, Illinois.

January 15, 1955, he married Carol (Berlin). They were married 65 years until her death in 2020. They had five children. Debi (Paul deceased), Cathy (Dave), Christina (deceased), Gary (deceased), Howie. Grandchildren Keith (Sadie), Kevin (Amber), Andy (Jill), Greg (Sarah), Tara (Sean), Dante, Molly and several Great Grandchildren, Aaron, Ashley, Jaiden, Olivia, Aria, Liam, Eamon, Eldon, Ewan and Ethan and his beloved dog Tootsie.

Heinz earned his apprenticeship in February 1957 as a Tool and Die Maker. He loved his work and continued even after retirement. He was a volunteer firefighter in our town of Darien, Illinois. He was involved in our church, St. Johns in Darien, Illinois. He was an elder and also taught Sunday School. He was also a member of the Church Choir. He loved to sing and had a beautiful voice.

In 1975, he moved our family to Colorado. He loved the mountains and traveling. He also traveled to Germany several times with family. They built a home in Palmer Lake with the entire family helping including his grandchildren. They then moved to Julesburg, Colorado where he started the Rocky Mountain Division of the Orphan Grain Train. A Lutheran charity helping those in the States and around the world. Mom wrote a grant to fund a warehouse building in Julesburg to sort supplies to ship. Dad loved to talk and he went to many churches around the area talking with people to help with OGT in helping to secure donations of clothing, medical and dental equipment and to sort and to secure funding to help pay for shipments. He never met a stranger. Heinz had the unique ability to talk to anyone. He was always wanting to learn. Besides his family, he also loved the Old Steam Locomotives. He loved being by the railroad tracks to watch them come by.

Service for Heinz will be 10:30am, Friday, July 11, 2025 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 3411 So. Taft Ave. Loveland, Colorado 80537.

In lieu of flowers, he asks that you give a donation to your favorite Humane Society.
