With deep love and respect, we say goodbye to Javier Ferro, a devoted family man and tireless advocate for dignity in labor. His legacy lives on in every act of compassion, strength, and calm that defined his life.

Born on May 4, 1936, in Guanajuato, Mexico, Javier was the eldest of twelve siblings, including his beloved twin sister, Elia. From an early age, he embraced discipline and learning, attending Catholic school at the age of ten and later continuing at the seminary, where he nurtured his passion for education. In his youth, he also developed a natural love for sports, especially basketball.

In 1976, Javier married María Guadalupe in Santa Cruz, California. Together, they created a home filled with love and raised three children: Javier, Luz, and Terry. He also took great joy in spending time with his eight grandchildren.

Javier devoted much of his life to working in the agricultural industry in Salinas, California. In that space, his empathy and inner strength found deeper meaning. He was a proud and steadfast supporter of the farmworker movement, joining César Chávez and the United Farm Workers in peaceful demonstrations to advocate for better conditions. His activism was always driven by a deep belief in justice and the conviction that every job deserves respect and dignity.

His life was a testament to determination, dedication, and heartfelt values. Those who knew him will remember him as a generous, cheerful man whose smile was often accompanied by singing or dancing to his favorite tunes.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 14, 2025 from 1-8pm, and Rosary will be at 6pm at Healey Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 10am at Iglesia Cristo Rey.

Healey Mortuary

At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
