James Edward Abbott

This is Jim!

James Edward Abbott, born to Helen and Clifford Abbott, on January 2, 1949, and passed away on June 30, 2025, at 76 years of age. He was a lifelong resident of Yuba City with lifelong friendships. Following graduation from Chico State with a bachelor's degree in business administration, Jim joined his father who established Sutter Orchard Supply. Jim became owner operator with a career spanning 53 years.

He was highly regarded for his knowledge and integrity, his genuine interest in his customers, and his dedication to the community. Jim's co-owner, Greg Rudstrom of 36 years, along with the staff and employees were his S.O.S. family. Jim's life was devoted to family, friends, and his dogs. They will tell you that he leaves a legacy of love and generosity. He was a giver extraordinaire, easy to talk with, kind and funny with a great sense of humor that brought smiles and laughter, and his "famous" pomegranate jelly was the best!

Jim is survived by his brother, Lane Abbott of Lakewood, CO; sister, Barbara Abbott of Lafayette, CA; nephew, Brian Rye (Dawn) of Incline Village, NV; niece, Mary Smith (Wes) of Orinda, CA; cousin, Bill Jones of Golden, CO; six great nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Sandy.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ullrey Memorial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim are appreciated and can be sent to Yuba-Sutter Fair Heritage Foundation, Yuba County Animal Care Services, or Sutter Animal Services Authority.

A Farewell Send-off Celebration for Jim will begin at Sutter Cemetery on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 11 AM, with a graveside burial then continuing to a reception at the Yuba Sutter Fairgrounds.
