It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sandra Johnson, formerly known as Horton, who left this world on July 7, 2025, at the age of 71 in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Born on December 24, 1953 in Newport News, VA, Sandra's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit.Sandra was a devoted mother to her beloved daughters, Shannyn Franklin (Joe Franklin) and Ashley Hickman (Steve Hickman). Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Maxwell, Kailey, and Margaret Franklin, Anthony Hickman, Cameron Stephenson (Joseph Stephenson), and great grandson Desmond Stephenson, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. Sandra was also an adoring sister to Robin H. Suber and a loving aunt to Brittany Suber, Travis Suber, and great-nephew Hayden Suber. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret Jean Horton and James Robert Horton, and is survived by her dear aunt Brenda F. Arrowood, along with numerous cousins who will miss her dearly. A graduate of Middleton High School, Charleston SC, Class of 1972. Sandra exemplified ambition and determination throughout her career. She began her journey at Kroger (formally M&M Grocery), where her quick wit and exceptional management skills propelled her to success. Sandra became the "go-to" person for opening and training in new stores all over southeast Georgia. After a successful tenure at Kroger, she transitioned to managing Applebee's in Orangeburg, South Carolina, where her warm demeanor and infectious humor drew in both co-workers and customers, fostering lifelong friendships that enriched her life.Known for her feisty yet engaging personality, Sandra was more than just a mother and friend; she was a guiding light who encouraged everyone around her. Her wise words, often adorned with a sweet southern charm, inspired resilience and grace. She had a knack for turning moments into laughter, and her love for playing games, especially Bingo... always on a winning streak, kept her spirit youthful and lively.Though our hearts are heavy, we take solace in celebrating Sandra’s life, a life marked by kindness, encouragement, and a fierce love for family. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, with details forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, Sandra would wish for you to remember her by living life to the fullest. Play a game of Bingo in her honor, and embrace compassion and kindness towards one another.As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we carry her memory with us—her laughter, her wisdom, and her unwavering support—forever etched in our hearts.
