James "Jim" Harris Miller
May 28th, 1936 - July 7th, 2025
James (Jim) Harris Miller was born on May 28, 1936 and raised in Ray, Arizona, (yes, an AZ native) the son of L. J. and Inez M. Miller and died in Sun City, Arizona on July 7, 2025. Jim graduated from AZ State College (now ASU) with a major in Chemistry. He served 15 years in the US Air Force from 1959 to 1974 as a navigator and munitions squadron commander and achieved the rank of Major. He served overseas in Thailand, Germany and England. He participated in Antarctic resupply, Operation DeepFreeze, from New Zealand and navigated to both the North and South Poles. Jim loved his country and was glad he had the opportunity to support its objective of protecting freedom of all. Jim was never able to return to his hometown, Ray, as the open pit copper mine swallowed the town and a new town, Kearney, was created.
He returned to ASU and obtained another degree in Accounting. He was employed in purchasing for Honeywell (previously Sperry Flight Systems) for 19 years, specializing in computer chips, before retiring in 1998. Jim and Anne loved to travel and explored many areas around the world, including China, Russia, Western & Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, the Mediterranean, Israel, the Panama Canal, South Pacific, South America and 5 countries in Africa.
He has been involved in his church choir, Habitat for Humanity, men's and couple's bible studies and was always available to help where needed. He especially enjoyed working as a docent at the Challenger Space Center. He volunteered for several years with the Glendale and Surprise Police Departments in the Motorist Assist program, and also assisted with their Crime Analysis computer software programs. Jim had a great interest in computers and was active in the Computer Club at Venture In Resort in Show Low where he summered for 15 years, including two years as President of the Club.
Jim loved to spend time with his family and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Barbara Bradshaw. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Anne, son James Michael, daughter Karen Lynn Miller, sister Geraldine Squire, step-children Chris (Kurt) Pouliot, Tim (Tricia) Pouliot, Michelle (Eric) Edwards, Pamela (Dick) Tucker, Robert (Susan) McConnell, and grandchildren; Abbey and Riley Francis, Easton and Bailey Miller, Asher Pouliot, Blake (Lauren) Tucker, Shana (Nate) Bennett and Ethan (Krista) McConnell plus 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was a man of honor, respected for his generosity. He was devoted to his family and to the service of others and will be missed. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be given to the American Lutheran Church, 17200 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ 85373 or The People of Faith Foundation at Royal Oaks, 10015 W. Royal Oak Rd., Sun City, AZ 85351 in Jim's memory.
A Celebration of Life will be held at American Lutheran Church, 17200 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ on Monday July 21, 2025 at 11:00 am. A light lunch will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
