Virgil Glennwood Hulsey born October 7th, 1933, in Leadwood Missouri to Carl and Alberta Hulsey the 2nd of 5 children, passed away on June 28th, 2025, in Puyallup Washington surrounded by family, friends, and God’s ever-present love. Virgil was retired from the Navy, retired from the City of Tacoma, and attended St. Andrew Catholic Church.

Virgil is predeceased by his daughter Coralee, his parents Carl and Alberta, his brothers Vernon and Bob, and his sister Marylin. He is survived by his brother David (Gail), his wife of 68 years Barbara(Wall), sons Craig (Tami), Joe (Pam), his daughters Colleen (Cliff), Mary K, nephew Doug(Rose) and grandchildren Balynda, Tasha (Nathan), Mandee (Darren), Craig (Jess), Ian (Chelsee), Katee (Carlos), Kylee(Scott), Coralee(Wayne), Emilee, Ryan(Sam), Sarah (Landrey), Hannah, Samee(Trevor), and 25 great grandchildren.

Virgil made the decision early on in his life not to pursue being a professional baseball player, instead he enlisted in the United States Navy. During his time in the Navy, he met and married Barbara and had 5 children. He had many duty stations in his 21-year career with lots of family moves finally settling in Puyallup, Washington in 1971. Virgil joined his family in 1974 after 3 years in the Philippines for his final tour of duty. He engaged in the Youth Basketball Association being 1 of 2 referees that understood international rules. He received recognition for this collaboration. He had a mind for baseball statistics that would stump the best of them, loved history, baseball, basketball, Old Westerns and of course his dad jokes.

He was active in church, attending events, ushering, and always greeting everyone with a genuine warmth. He also volunteered at Good Samaritan Hospital. He enjoyed watching the kids’ games, showing up unannounced and supporting them always. He was very proud of his family. He was very generous with time and talent and loved making you laugh.

Virgil will be forever in our hearts. We miss him daily, his smile, his laughter, his love.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 21st at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Sumner. Rosary begins at 10:30AM. Reception to follow. The private family burial ceremony will be at Tahoma National Cemetery.

Fair winds and following seas.
