Eugene "Gene" Rollo Nay, Jr.
June 11th, 1933 - July 1st, 2025
With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Eugene Rollo Nay Jr., who died peacefully on July 1, 2025, at the age of 92.
Born on June 11, 1933, Eugene—known to friends and family simply as “Gene”—brought wit, warmth, and wisdom to everyone he met.
A lifelong storyteller with a sharp sense of humor, Gene had a particular fondness for wordplay and never missed the opportunity for a good pun or a memorable tale. His legendary moose hunting story—part truth, part tall tale—was a staple at family gatherings, told with the kind of sparkle only he could deliver.
Gene built a successful career in telecommunications sales, where he was known not only for his work ethic but also for his people skills and easy charm. After retiring, he found time to enjoy his passions: trout fishing in quiet streams, playing a competitive game of horseshoes, and hitting the links for a round of golf. He also achieved a lifelong dream when he published his only book, Hold A Gentle Thought—a heartfelt reflection of his values, memories, and philosophies.
Perhaps his most closely guarded secret, however, was his famous chili verde recipe, passed down only in hushed tones and never quite replicated.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Celeste Nay, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and partnership. Together, they created a home full of warmth and welcome—a place where stories were told, meals were shared, and memories were made.
He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his quick wit, and the gentle wisdom he carried into every conversation. Though he has left this world, Gene’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the stories he told, and the love he shared.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share a story, raise a toast, or tell a good pun in Gene’s honor.
