George Alva Tyler
November 9th, 1939 - July 4th, 2025
George Alva Tyler, age 85, of University Place WA, peacefully passed away from Alzheimer’s on July 4th, 2025. George was born in Tacoma on November 9th, 1939 to Charles and Wilma Tyler. George graduated from Lincoln HS in 1957 and retired from Pierce County Public Works as Pierce County Roads Maintenance Supervisor after 30 years and continued his private surveying company, his shared C&G Heavy Hauling company with his son, and as a fair and honest landlord of multiple properties in UP. George loved and lost his wife Ann Marie Morse, after 49 years of a full and wonderful marriage raising their four children, Kim Tyler, Cheryl Finnegan, Charles “Charlie” Tyler and Shawn Hoff. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Charles and Wilma Tyler, granddaughter, Heidi Ashbach, great grandson, Richie Rooney, and nephew, Scott Shindle. George is survived by his sister, Charlene Shindle (Gene), his 4 children, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. George spent his early years building and showing his custom 1949 chopped Merc lead sled with his car club, the Capers. Then life got busy with his children and grandchildren’s activities. The last 15 years, he has enjoyed traveling the world, gardening and quiet moments with his partner and caregiver, Judith Neilson. Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 22 at 1:00 p.m., Calvary Cemetery 5212 70th St W., Tacoma. In his final days of this horrible disease, visits from his young great grandchildren would bring a smile to his face and a light in his eyes. In lieu of flowers, a Tribute gift can be made in his name to the Mary Bridge Children’s Foundation at give.multicare.org
