Mary "Mary Lou" Louise Albert
April 12th, 1943 - July 11th, 2025
Mary "Mary Lou" Louise Albert, born on April 12, 1943, in Washington, DC, was a beacon of warmth and humor throughout her life. Raised in Arlington, Virginia, she proudly claimed her status as a sixth-generation Arlingtonian, a title she wore like a badge of honor. She was an only child, preceded in death by her parents, Maryan Smith Brown and Lewis Furr Smith. After graduating from Washington-Lee High School in 1961, Mary Lou devoted herself to her family and community, embracing life with an infectious spirit and a heart full of kindness. Mary Lou was known as the quintessential hostess who had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel welcomed and cherished. Her home was filled with laughter, where friends and family enjoyed her delicious meals, hospitality and gift of gab. With an energetic and mischievous personality, she embodied the role of a "fierce mama bear" who defended and uplifted those she loved. Her humor, coupled with her genuine care for others, made her a treasured friend and confidant. Mary Lou’s love for her family was evident in every facet of her life, from her cherished role as a devoted wife to Frederick A. Albert, Jr., to her pride in her children, Kathleen Albert, Frederick "Rick" A. Albert, III, and his wife, Michelle. She was especially proud to be a grandmother to William L. Jones and wife Kailie, with whom she shared countless joyous moments. Mary Lou also had a special place in her heart for her beloved dog, Lulu, who was often by her side.
An active volunteer in her community, Mary Lou dedicated her time to volunteer activities and supporting her church, believing firmly in the importance of faith and service. Her commitment to Arlington’s growth and development resonated deeply with her, and she flourished in her interactions with neighbors, always ready to lend a helping hand. Mary Lou inspired those around her to embrace life with enthusiasm, demonstrating the strength of loyalty, honesty, and generosity.
Sadly, Mary Lou passed away in Arlington, VA, on July 11, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
