Marilyn Joyce Lindsey

Marilyn Joyce Lindsey passed from this life at her home early in the morning on Thursday June 26, 2025 with Pam and Cheri by her side. Born May 20, 1932 she was the second daughter of Charles C. Skinner and Velma G. Skinner May.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant sister Zelma Skinner, her younger sister Delores Christensen, her brother Donald Skinner, her former husband Ralph Lindsey, Sr., her first grandson Michael Kennedy, Jr., and her son-in-law Mike Kiely.  She is survived by her four children, Pam Kennedy (Mike), Ralph Lindsey, Jr. (Becky), Jan Kiely, Cheri Burge (Doug) and their families, which includes 8 of her 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren with two more on the way.

Above all Marilyn was a woman of faith, who chose family as her number one priority in life. Married at age 16 and having 4 children by 23 meant learning quickly about being a mother.  She worked outside the home much of her life doing mostly secretarial work. This work began at a meat packing plant in St. Louis and ended with an administrative position in the Office of the Colorado Secretary of State. Work was always a means to an end focused on being engaged with her family and their activities.  She seemed always to have a camera in hand.  Marilyn raised her children to be caring, to have the same love for family, to be self-reliant and independent. She made sure that each one was a high school graduate.

Marilyn’s house has always been open to family. In earlier years, her sister Delores and her 5 children would come to stay for months at a time while her husband was stationed overseas. In later years, Marilyn counted it a blessing that Pam and Mike chose to live in her house with her while they raised their children and grandchildren. This gave her more time to love them and be an example for them.  Whenever someone in the family needed a place to stay, there was always room at Marilyn’s.

For Marilyn, family also meant being part of a church family. This began at the Thornton Church of Christ where she was a founding member and where she attended most of her life until the church closed its doors several years ago. Marilyn formed deep friendships both within the church and outside. When Marilyn became your friend, you had a friendship for life. There were no bounds to her loyalty. She cared for you and your children as her own.

Marilyn had a compassionate and caring heart. If you had a need she would set her own aside and come running to assist in any way she could. Through the years many friends and family members felt her gentle touch. Whether it was the soft gentle way she scratched a child’s back or her soft grip as she held the hand of someone that was ill or waiting to pass, her touch brought a deep sense of peace and calm. It said, “Everything will be alright.”

A memorial service is planned for 2:00 pm on Saturday July 26, 2025 at the Northwest Church of Christ, 5255 W. 98th Ave., Westminster, CO. 80020.
