Betty Ellen Fourtner
July 15th, 1925 - July 14th, 2025
Betty Ellen Fourtner, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully departed this world on July 14, 2025, at the age of 99 and 364 days. Born in Ogden, Utah on July 15, 1925, Betty lived a life rich with experiences and love, leaving a lasting legacy for her family and those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Betty was the daughter of Preston Allen Thomas and Fern F. Frost (Shreeve), and was raised by her mother and stepfather, Ernest Shreeve. She attended Ogden High School and continued her life with a spirit of adventure that would define her life. During World War II, she contributed to the war effort by expertly building binoculars. Her career spanned a variety of exciting roles, including an elevator operator, a captivating casino shell known as the "Blonde Bomber" in Las Vegas, and a gracious hostess at the Holiday Inn. Betty met Kenneth W. Fourtner and three months later they began what would become 43 years of beautiful marriage before Kenneth passed away. After Ken's passing, Betty kindly devoted her time to volunteering at St. Luke's Hospital, where she met Woody Voyles, a cherished companion. Betty’s roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother are where she truly shone. Betty was an incredible cook, making the holidays and family gatherings special.
Betty’s personality was as vibrant as her wardrobe; tiny in stature but mighty in spirit, she approached life with flair, charm, and most notable, sparkle. Those who knew her would often say, “To know Betty is to love Betty.” Her interests ranged from fishing and hunting jack rabbits to enjoying the nightlife and travelling with her husband, always returning to enjoy the simple pleasures of family, which she cherished deeply.
Betty is survived by her son Kenneth L. Fourtner, daughter-in-law Terry M. Fourtner, and granddaughter Kylie M. Fourtner. While she grieved the loss of her beloved husband Kenneth W. Fourtner, and grandsons, Joshua K. Oakley and Kenneth C. Fourtner (K.C.), her spirit lives on through her great-grandson, Leo Cole Fourtner-Deuel.
A graveside service will be held at Dry Creek Cemetery (Eagleview section) on July 18, at 1:00 PM. In tribute to her favorite color, pink, those attending are encouraged to wear something in this hue, remembering her as a beautiful and vibrant spirit who brought joy to all who crossed her path. As her family gathers to honor her memory, they find comfort in the countless memories they created together and the love that she instilled in their hearts. Betty Ellen Fourtner will be forever loved and deeply missed.
