Peggy Jane Austin, age 86 of Kingsport, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. Peggy was born on September 17, 1938, in Scott County, VA to J.D. and Ruth Edwards. In 1956, Peggy married the love of her life and best friend, L. Bruce Austin, and after 58 years of a beautiful life together, he preceded her in death on July 18, 2014.
Peggy loved her family and caring for her family and home. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and The Social Order of the Beauceant. Peggy was a member of Morrison City Christian Church.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, L. Bruce Austin; son, Jeffery Bruce Austin; daughter, Angela Dawn Austin; brother, Johnny Edwards; two sisters, Betty Jo Sproles and Helen Dockery; and brother-in-law, Bob Depew. Those left to cherish her memory are her four sisters, Louise Depew, Nancy Fullen (John), Cynthia Jones (Roger), and Rhonda Salley (David); brother, Gene Edwards (Jan); brother-in-law, Tommy Sproles; sister-in-law, Shelia Edwards; sisters-in-law, Barbara Anderson, Elaine Lyall, and Kathy Brooks; brothers-in-law, Michael Austin, and Gene Austin; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and other family members and friends.
The family would like to give a special “Thank You” to the staff of Gentiva Hospice for the loving care and support they provided Peggy and her family.
In lieu of flowers Peggy requested that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN. www.stjude.org
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Bob Underwood officiating. Peggy’s family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 am.
