A pastor's wife is a cornerstone of both faith and family, embodying strength, love, and dedication in her role.

Brenda Marie Bowlin (05/26/1945)

On July 18, 2025, Brenda joined the celebration of the promise fulfilled by Jesus, her blessed hope, for whom she served for many years. Brenda was a preacher’s wife and supported her husband’s call to the ministry with great vitality and patience as well as her church family. She was a member of Blue Springs Primitive Baptist Church, and Beta Sigma Phi Laureate Alpha Lambda Chapter of Bristol, Tennessee.

Brenda loved her family dearly and made it a point to be involved in all aspects of their lives. She taught them to love the Lord and to live by His word. In addition, Brenda loved to sing gospel music, and she blessed many souls with her talent. Early in her life, she wrote several songs that were recorded by The Chuckwagon Gang.

Brenda is preceded in death by her husband (53 yrs.), Elder Johnny Bowlin; daughter-in-law, Christy Yonz Bowlin; sister, Ruby Hall; mother, Belva Rutter and father, Ruben Leonard. Surviving family members are her children, Kimberly Bowlin; Brad Bowlin (Shelly); and Matthew Bowlin (Amanda); brothers, Wayne Leonard (Shirley) and Frank Rutter; and sister Carolyn Rutter; three granddaughters, Emma, Madilyn, and Natalie Bowlin. In addition, she is survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 23rd with service immediately following. The interment will take place Thursday, July 24th at 11:00 A.M. at the Spurrier Cemetery in Hiltons, Virginia. Clergy conducting the celebration of life are Elders Chris Salley and Gary Hall. Pallbearers will be Brenda’s nephews.

The Bowlin family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Brenda’s caretakers at “The Waters” nursing homes at both the Roan Highlands and Bristol, Tennessee facilities, as well as the Visiting Angels, Brandi, Daphne and Laurie. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Christy Yonz Bowlin Memorial Scholarship Fund at Carson-Newman University, F.R.A.N.K, or Blue Springs Primitive Baptist Church.
