Maria dos Anjos Melo

Maria dos Anjos Melo, 84, of Boise, passed away peacefully in her bed, on Saturday, July 19, 2025.  Maria was born January 11,1941, in Quatro Ribeiras on the island of Terceira, Azores, Portugal. As a young woman she excelled in needle point work alongside her mother and maternal grandmother, selling their works of art to the Royal Family of Portugal. Maria met Jose Melo, her husband of 48 years at a religious festa. Together they had three children: Lucia, Belina, and Joey.  In 1977 the family immigrated to America due to their beloved Azores being in political turmoil. Maria navigated this new world with strength, courage, and grace while raising three young children. In the early eighties, Maria's sewing skills were put to good use when she started working as a seamstress at an O.P. clothing factory to help support the family.  

Maria is survived by her daughter, Lucia and her children: Matthew and Megan; daughter, Belina and her husband Benjamin and daughter Sabrina; son Joey and his wife Frances and their sons: Lucas and Nathan. She is also survived by her siblings: Jose da Silva and Filomena Nunes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Melo; parents, Manuel and Maria da Silva; brother Manuel da Silva; and granddaughter Serena Melo-Chew.

Reception will follow after the funeral at Our Lady of the Rosary 1500 East Wright Street, Boise, ID 83706.
