Lawrence K. “Larry” LeGrand, 87, passed away peacefully at home on July 20, 2025, surrounded by family in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Born on Valentine’s Day in 1938 in Huntington, West Virginia, Larry lived a life full of energy, generosity, and unwavering support for those he loved.

A gifted athlete in his youth, Larry played basketball and ran track, becoming a star sprinter, hurdler, and high jumper. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Marshall University and built a distinguished career in the transportation industry before becoming president and CEO of a trucking company in Columbus, Ohio. It was there, in Columbus, where he raised his family and became a leader known for his integrity, vision, and work ethic.

Larry’s -greatest- joy was found as a husband, father, and grandfather. He fought to the very end, not wanting to leave his family – especially Sue, his beloved wife of 63 years. He was so proud of his lovely daughters, Connie and Missy, and when his grandchildren came into the world (all in one year), he fell in love all over again. How he cherished those four: Kathryn (Kitty), Max, Davis, and Cole. He had four girls to watch over and three boys to cheer on. Known affectionately as “Pop Pop," he was their biggest fan, offering his signature nod and fist bump as a sign to finish strong - whether it was in athletics, academics, or everyday life. In his retirement, Larry played tennis well into his eighties with his Springlake Racquet Club team. He often spoke about getting back on the court, inspired by a friend who still played at the age of 94. That was Larry—always cheering for others, always believing in what was possible.

If you are reading this, you probably knew Larry - and you remember a man who never met a stranger. Whether you knew him for a moment or a lifetime, he was genuinely interested in knowing you and likely left you with a smile. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the many friends Larry made throughout his life, some of whom he carried from high school, others who became dear throughout the decades. Barry Leaird, words are not enough to thank you for all you have done for our family.

Larry. Dad. Pop Pop.

You were the first to teach us to love, the first to teach us to live, to fight for those we love, and stay loyal to the end.

Thank you for being a part of Larry LeGrand's journey. We will hold a celebration of his life at a later date, and as you said to Sue in your final days, we’ll see you on the other side.
