In Loving Memory of Virginia “Jenny” O. Lyman August 14, 1937 – July 20, 2025

Jenny went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on August 14, 1937, in Burlington, Kansas, she was the third daughter welcomed by Charles and Fern Woods. From an early age, Jenny was known for her love of a good time, determination and just the right amount of orneriness to keep things interesting.

Raised on the family farm, Jenny moved into town to attend high school where she met Herb, and the two married when she was just 17. Together, they raised two sons and spent many summers traveling from Texas to Canada with their family’s custom wheat harvesting business. It was a life full of long days, big skies, and lasting memories.

Jenny will be remembered for her infectious laugh, her genuine care for children, and her love of reading and conversation. She had a gift for making people feel welcome—always asking how you were doing. She served faithfully in the nursery at church until she became physically unable to do so.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herb. She is survived by her siblings, Margaret Bowen, Vera Vernon, and Dwight Woods; her sons, Greg (Rhonda) and Brad (Susan); her granddaughters, Whitney Detty (Lucky) and Coleen Williams (Brandon); and two great-grandchildren, Selah Grace and Josiah, and one who will be making her debut this September.

Jenny leaves behind a family who loved her and will carry her memory in the stories they share and the moments they cherish.

"But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ." — Philippians 3:20.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025, at 11:00 am at First Church of the Nazarene 901 St. Andrews Road in Columbia, South Carolina. Livestreaming will be available at https://columbianaz.com.
