It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of one of our family’s beloved patriarchs, Jeff Mitchell. Born on October 13, 1961, in Hartford, Connecticut, Jeff said his final goodbyes on the evening of July 14th at 10 p.m., surrounded by the love and presence of his family. Hey, say God only takes the greatest — and Jeff was truly one of the best. Known for his kindness, wisdom, and strength, he had a gift for turning strangers into friends. Whereverhe went; Jeff connected with people. He genuinely loved learning about their lives, listeningto their stories and making them feel seen and valued. He left everyone better than hefound them.Jeff was the oldest sibling — a proud brother to Debbie Carbone, Darlene Lanzano, DawnSaucier, and Todd Saucier. He cherished each of you deeply. He celebrated your accomplishments, held onto your memories, and loved your families like his own. Jeff never had children of his own, but he poured his heart into the lives of so many others. He became the world’s greatest uncle — not just to those biologically connected, but to anyone who needed guidance, support, or unconditional love. Crissy, Carly, Danielle, Christian, Awstynn, Caroline, Angel, Susie, Zander, Isabella, Lillyanna — and to his great-niece Catalina and great-nephew Carson — Jeff celebrated every one of your wins as if they were his own. You were his pride and joy. His love helped shape the people you’ve become. He is now reunited with those he missed so deeply — Donna, Lucien, Dawn, and many others who passed before him. While our hearts break with loss, we can find comfort in knowing Jeff is where he longed to be among loved ones, watching over us all from afar. Jeff was a man of action and adventure. At just 17, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard and served for six years. He then spent three decades working in the Bahamas under a Department of Defense contract before retiring in 2021. After retirement, Jeff moved to Florida, where—true to form—he built a new community in Spruce Creek, grounded in friendship and purpose. He developed a close bond with his neighbors, especially Marge and Phil Coats, who became his dearest friends. Together, they shared countless new experiences and adventures, as Marge and Phil introduced Jeff to a wide range of clubs and activities that brought joy and meaning to his life. He was known as "the guy with the ponytail (which was his trademark) always walking or running" — always active, always helping, always connecting. He is also survived by his loving Aunt Margaret, Donna’s only sister, who loved him like her own son. Jeff cherished his visits with her and cared for her with the grace, patience, and devotion that defined so much of who he was. Jeff lived life on his own terms — full of experiences, full of laughter, and full of love. Hegave everything to everyone, and in doing so, created a legacy that will live on in each person he touched. As we say goodbye, we feel the weight of the hole he leaves behind. But we also carry his spirit — in our hearts, in our memories, and in how we choose to live our lives. Because if Jeff taught us anything, it's that tomorrow is never promised. So, love deeply. Give freely. And live fully. We love you, Jeff. You’ll always be with us. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
