Carl passed away peacefully on July 19th, 2025.

He and his four brothers and sisters were born in Dayton, Pennsylvania. In 1959, after the death of their father, the family relocated to St. Petersburg, FL, and the Troup house quickly became the favorite hangout for the neighborhood kids. Carl attended Dixie Hollins High School, where he distinguished himself as a standout football and basketball player, and was a member of the 1961 and ‘62 state champion basketball teams—the only state champs in school history.

After graduation, Carl married the fair and fetching Linda Elliott. Their pride and joy was their only daughter, Kimberly, a perfect gift delivered on Christmas Eve 1966. While punching a clock at many odd jobs to support his young family, a friend recommended barbering “as a way to make good money and stay in the air conditioning.” He attended barber school, and found his calling. For the next fifty years, Carl held court in his shop in northeast St. Pete.  All of the answers to all of life’s questions could be found among the snips and clips and debates and laughter in the shop on any given day.

When he locked up the shop, Carl was the consummate family man, neighbor, and community member. Some of his best days were spent at Camp Azalea on the Suwannee River or at Gator games with family and friends. He served on the Kenneth City Council for multiple terms, and was the Kris Kringle of the neighborhood during Christmas, helping the entire block with outdoor decorations that attracted lines of spectators every December. Of course … there were the grandchildren, Summer and Talon. He aggressively and unapologetically spoiled them. He was their go-to babysitter, vacation guide, and most vocal fan at all of their events. You couldn’t ask for a better “Pappoo.”

Carl lived honestly and simply, filled with a quiet strength, that allowed him to smile without hesitation and love without reservation. He will be greatly missed.

Carl is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Kim (Matt); grandchildren Summer and Talon; sisters Darlene (Richard) and Sandra (Grant); brothers Dave (Jeannie) and Darrell; brother-in-law John (Rocky); and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday August 2nd, 2025 at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home, 2201 Dr. M.L.K. Jr. St. N, St. Petersburg, FL. Visitation begins at 11am, and service starts at 12 noon. Kim and Matt will host an open house at 2pm at their home, 2837 Seabreeze Dr S, Gulfport, FL.
