Moreland “Mo” Lee Coates passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on July 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Mo was born in Covington, Kentucky on March 6, 1940, firstborn child to Arthur and Jane Coates. He grew up on the family farm until the family moved to Umatilla, Florida in 1954.

He graduated from Umatilla High School in 1958 where he met the love of his life Patty Cooper. They married on November 25, 1961 and raised two children, Cindy and Monte. They were happily married for over 63 years.

Mo worked for Sears in the credit department for 27 years which took him to Orlando, Titusville and back to Orlando. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and hunting. He was a self-taught woodcarver, carving his favorite subjects of ducks and mountain men.

Mo was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Winter Park where he was a deacon, sang in a gospel quartet, choir and volunteered many hours in the church kitchen.

He was a gentle giant who had a larger than life personality and a jolly laugh. He was kind and generous and was eager to help anyone in need.

Mo is survived by his wife, Patty, siblings, Jane Coates, Tom Coates and Lynn Coates Reed, children Cindy and Monte(wife Kari) and grandchildren Hannah(husband Kasey), Austin(wife Vitoria), Dalton, Jacob, Christian, Mason and Evan.

Mo leaves behind a legacy of love, service and quiet strength. His family and friends will forever cherish the joy and kindness he shared throughout his life.

There will be a private Celebration of Life with family. Correspondence to the family can be sent to 316 Tiki Terrace, Daytona Beach, Florida 32124.
