In Loving Memory

Clarence Gordan Moody passed away peacefully at his home in Kernersville, North Carolina, Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at the age of 78. Born on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1947, in Northampton County, he was the cherished son of Grace Johnson and Clarence Goodrich Moody, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jimmy and Elvin Lee.

Clarence’s life was a testament to dedication and service. A proud graduate of Gaston High School in 1965 and Wilson Community Technical School in 1966, he went on to devote over 40 years to law enforcement. His career was marked by integrity and commitment as he served as a Deputy Sheriff in Franklin County, a Master Trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and later as a Deputy Court Bailiff in Forsyth County. Clarence played an instrumental role as a founding member and Chief of the Youngsville Rescue Squad. If Clarence wasn’t patrolling the roads of Forsyth County, you could find him working at Wilson Tire Shop; he was a tremendous help to the late Gary Wilson.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Elizabeth “Libby” Sheets Moody; his children Rachel Moody Weavil (Christopher), Charles Lincoln Moody (Jennifer MacKenzie), Helen Graves Moore (Adam), and Tracy Graves Flinchum (Chris Fry); grandchildren Cami, Corey, Jonah (Meagan), Caleb (Abby), Carmen (JD), Robyn (TJ), Zev (Liz), Margo, and Felix; and five great-grandchildren. Clarence is also remembered by his brother Dave Moody (Angela); stepmother Margaret; stepsister Donna; nephews Daniel and Jason; niece Stacy; and many cousins and extended family members.

A devout member of Pisgah United Methodist Church, Clarence served in various capacities over the years, exemplifying his faith through service to others. Clarence was initiated, passed, and raised in Piedmont-Pioneer Lodge No. 685 in 2003 serving the lodge as faithful member for 21 years. He served as master (presiding officer) of his lodge in 2010. He is a current member of Salem Lodge No. 285, as Piedmont-Pioneer Lodge No. 685 merged with Salem Lodge 289. Outside of his professional and volunteer work, Clarence cherished his annual fishing trips to the Outer Banks, a tradition that brought him much joy. He was also a lifelong NASCAR fan, finding excitement and camaraderie in the sport.

A celebration of Clarence’s life will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025 3 p.m. at Pisgah United Methodist Church, 2165 Pisgah Church Road, Kernersville, North Carolina. The family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pisgah United Methodist Church in Clarence’s honor.

A special thank you to the team of caregivers at Well Care Hospice for the exceptional attention provided to Clarence and his family. Clarence will be remembered as a man who lived his life with service, dedication, and love for his family and community. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.
