Mae Elizabeth (Koester) Lewis
February 10th, 1937 - July 21st, 2025
Mae Elizabeth (Koester) Lewis, of Windsor, Colorado, returned home to her Heavenly Father on July 21, 2025.
Mae was born on Feb. 10, 1937 in Denver, Colorado to Henry and Lucy Mae Koester. Her mother died weeks after her birth, and she was raised by her grandparents Louie and Alice Pease.
She graduated from Padroni High School in Padroni, Colorado in 1955, where she was named valedictorian.
On Feb. 19, 1956, she married Lloyd LeRoy Lewis in Padroni. They were married for 53 years before his death, and together, they raised three children.
Mae had an incredible talent for quilting and sewing, and she worked many jobs that allowed her to use her talents and creativity. She owned a drapery business, as well as a quilting store in Loveland, Colorado, where she shared her love of crafting with others. She also worked for LEGO, designing kits for the company to sell.
She loved sewing, and most who knew her were gifted with something she had sewn.
Mae was inducted into the Colorado Quilting Council Hall of Fame and was also named an honorary member of the Retired Fire Fighters Association of Denver for her many years of service to the organization.
She loved the Broncos, butterflies, roses and she especially loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Mae was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities over her 56 years in the church.
She is preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, her parents and her sister Lena Jane Spears.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia M. (Shawn) Elworthy, Windsor, Colorado; daughter Bulinda K. (Larry) Egley, West Glacier, Montana; son Leon L. (Julie) Lewis, Berthoud, Colorado; sister Julia Lorraine Neuman, Wheatridge, Colorado; 10 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, 10 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 500 Hillspire Dr., Windsor, Colorado, with a public viewing at 9 a.m.
Graveside services will be held at the Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver.
