Susan Mary Jane Diaz

Susan (Susie) Mary Jane Diaz, 72, of Severance, CO went to sleep in Jesus at the beginning of the Sabbath day, Friday, August 11, 2023 surrounded by many loving family and friends who prayed, read scripture, spoke of the hope of heaven and sang to comfort her and each other. She was born November 29, 1950 in Greeley, CO to Joe P. Gonzales and Catarina (Katie) Gonzales. Susie was part of a fun and loving family of 6 sisters and 3 brothers that liked to tease and encourage each other through the good times and bad. Susie was married on December 23, 1976 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Herman Regino Diaz, whom she loved with her whole heart. They had two children Rachelle Alves and Chris Diaz who were her pride and joy. She dedicated her life to lovingly nurturing her children, her niece Ashley Escamilla, and her grandchildren: Sammy Diaz, Brielle Diaz and Sofia Alves. She showed them unconditional love and tender loving care. Spending time with her family at home or on trips to the mountains, Mexico and Idaho made her happy. She enjoyed eating good home-cooked meals like tacos, freshly cooked beans and fried potatoes or treating her grandkids to their favorite foods. Reading scripture and listening to sermons and gospel music uplifted her. She fought fiercely against cancer for almost 8 years which far exceeded the years which the doctors predicted. Cancer hit her family members hard as well. She tragically lost her husband to it at age 48 and her mother years later. Susan and her daughter were diagnosed with cancer within a month of each other and had a reoccurrence the following year. They supported each other through radiation, chemo and side effects. Other family members and friends also stood by Susan’s side to love and care for her through it all. Jesus was her personal Friend that gave her strength and peace through the trials. She is survived by her children, Rachelle Alves of Severance, Chris Diaz of Windsor; her grandchildren, Sammy Diaz, Brielle Diaz, Sofia Alves; her siblings, Ramona Martinez of Greeley, Alberta Rossman of LaSalle, Della Rangel of Evans, Porfie Gonzales of Evans, Joe P. Gonzales, Jr. of Evans, Phillip Torres of Aurora, and Pete (Sapoa) Gonzales of Greeley; her son-in-law Alex Alves and daughter-in-law Jennifer Roth and a large loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe P. Gonzales, Sr, Catarina (Katie) Gonzales, her father-in-law, Regino Diaz, her husband, Herman Diaz, her mother-in-law, Anita Diaz and her sisters Marie Martinez and Marty Cabral.
