In Loving Memory

Janet Mary Buck made her debut September 3, 1936, in Englewood, New Jersey to the delight of her parents John James and Mary Filomena Revetti. She left us quietly and peacefully, with loved ones by her side, on July 21, 2025.

Mom proudly claimed her Italian Jersey Girl roots and celebrated her Virgo-ness (she died at noon on the dot, of course) and being a “moon person”. Gregarious from the beginning, she had a knack for connecting with anyone, finding the fun in any situation and had a devilish sense of humor that even Alzheimer’s couldn’t eradicate.

On July 14, 1955, she married Robert (Bob) Harold Buckwhom she met at a party when in high school. Dad joined the Navy early in their marriage and they lived in Tennessee, Bolling Air Force Base in Washington DC, Suitland, Maryland, then Vienna, Virginia. Together, they built a loving family and a successful restaurant, Hillcrest Deli, and catering business. Our brother and we were “deli trained” and put to work starting in elementary school in the family business. There, mom and dad taught us the values of hard work, thinking ahead, and the equality of allpeople. They sold the business once Kathy graduated from high school.

Mom often spoke fondly of her early work experiences in New York City before marriage.  After selling the business, she continued to grow and thrive professionally, enjoying successful careers in executive search and then hospital administration. Her smart, connection with people and professionalism made her a valued colleague and leader.

Mom used the same skills as a volunteer usher at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts as an usher for ten years, at Oakmont Park Rec Center and at Inova Fair OaksHospital where she formerly worked. She loved greeting visitors to the hospital at the front reception desk, showing everyone kindness and providing help in both times of celebration and sadness.

Mom’s faith provided her strength and inspiration, for years attending St Mark Catholic Church in Vienna, Virginia where she met her long-time companion, Ed Wenzel.  Together, they shared deep joy and commitment for twenty years. Mom and Ed later joined Saint John Neuman Catholic Church in Reston, Virginia where they made many close friends.

Mom was a fiercely loyal friend. Whether a new or lifelongfriend, you could always count on mom in good times and in bad. Her circle of friends was large, and mom always managed to touch base and check in with them until the last couple years when she lost that capacity.

She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband Bob, her dear son Robert “Boo” Alan Buck and her daughter-in-love Mary Jeanne Mullen.

She is survived by her loving family, including daughters, Sheryll Strode (Charlie) and Kathy Buck (Paul Grimshaw);her grandchildren Michael Strode (Aimee), Nathan Strode, Victoria Southerland (Paul), Sophia Renegar (Matt), and Ryan Buck; and great-grandchildren Olivia and Beau Southerland and Austin Renegar. We will miss her deeply.

A memorial service will be held at a future date to coincide with her interment with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.
