Beers and Story - South Hadley
Joyce M. Giroux
December 18th, 1951 - July 26th, 2025
Chicopee - Joyce M. (Labrie) Giroux, 73, passed away peacefully at home on July 26, 2025. She was the daughter of Nelson and Theresa (Daviau) Labrie.
Joyce was a beloved wife of 54 years to David J. Giroux of Chicopee, a mother to her daughter, Karen Hoar, and her husband, Richard of Chicopee and a loving grandmother to Ryan, Madison and Tyler Hoar, each of whom shared a uniquely special bond with her. She is also survived by her siblings, Catherine Deecher, Thomas Labrie, Patricia Gamble and Francis Labrie. She was predeceased in death by her son Steven Giroux on July 17, 2022.
She was a lifelong resident of Chicopee, and her educational journey was marked by her role as class president at Holy Name High School. She was a member of St. Rose de Lima Church; she carried a deep sense faith throughout her life.
For many years, Joyce enjoyed being a crossing guard at St. Joan of Arc School, where she loved seeing the children daily. Following this role, she became a housekeeper, establishing meaningful relationships with her clients—many of whom became like family to her.
Joyce was skilled in sewing, crocheting, macramé, ceramics, and cross-stitch, and for years she gathered on Monday nights with her "Stitch & Bitch" friends for craft nights filled with camaraderie and creativity. Joyces favorite holiday was Halloween, where each year she would transform into a witch, handing out treats from her porch. Family suppers on Wednesday nights brought her immense joy, as family was the cornerstone of her life. Joyce was known not only for her nurturing nature but also for her sharp sarcasm and quick wit, which kept her loved ones laughing and their spirits high.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 7th, from 4 to 7 PM at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place on Friday at 10 AM at the funeral home, followed by burial at St. Rose de Lima Cemetery in Chicopee.
