It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Winnie K. Green, a beloved wife, sister, and friend, who left this world on July 28, 2025, at the age of 80 in Perry, Georgia. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Winnie’s life during a visitation on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory. The funeral service will take place the following day, August 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of the same home, with her interment immediately following at Parkway Memorial Gardens.
Born on February 20, 1945, in Benoit, Mississippi, Winnie was the daughter of Elbert and Lessie Burgess and was the eldest girl in a family of thirteen children. Her early life in a bustling household shaped her character, instilling values of kindness, consideration, and generosity that she carried throughout her life.
Winnie met her lifelong partner, Gerald Green, in 1962 in Tampa, Florida, and their love blossomed into a beautiful marriage on August 27, 1965, in Winter Garden, Florida. Together, they shared nearly six decades of joy, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. Their bond was a testament to love's enduring power, a beacon that illuminated the lives of those around them.
As a professional, Winnie served as a Closing Secretary for a real estate attorney, where her diligence and proficiency shone brightly—she was remarkably good at everything she did. Beyond her career, she was a devoted homemaker, embracing her passions with enthusiasm. Winnie had a flair for fashion and an impressive wardrobe to prove it; she loved shopping and was known for her unique style. Additionally, her talent for baking brought joy to countless family gatherings, where she ministered not just through her delicious creations but through the warmth and love she shared with everyone present.
Winnie is preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Vernon, Billy, Jesse, and Mary Burgess. She is survived by her cherished husband, Gerald, and her devoted siblings: Mickey (Marie) Burgess of Yankee Town, Florida; Larry (Cheryl) Burgess of Tavares, Florida; Roger (Barbara) Burgess of Tiburon, California; Jimmy Burgess of Marietta, Georgia; Stanley (Marlene) Burgess of Wesley Chapel, Florida; Linda (Eugene) McNeal of Palatka, Florida; Debbie Carroll of Cleveland, Tennessee; and Ellen (Eric) Starling of Chelsea, Alabama. Winnie will be remembered lovingly by her many nieces and nephews, who were fortunate to experience her nurturing spirit.
In reflecting upon her legacy, let us remember Winnie K. Green as a woman whose life was a tapestry of love, diligence, and warmth—a true gem who impacted everyone fortunate enough to know her.
