Clark Legacy Center - Versailles
Marjorie G. Evans
November 3rd, 1944 - July 23rd, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marjorie G. Evans, a beloved mother, grandmother, friend, and member of the Versailles community. Margie left this world peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, civic duty and being a great hostess.
Margie was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1944 to the late Robert Eugene and Martha Rutter Griese. She later moved to Florida and attended the University of Florida before transferring to Transylvania University in Lexington, KY. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree inEnglish along with a teaching certificate. She lived in Lexington, Kentucky for many years where she worked at Parrot, Ely, and Hurt Engineering Firm. During her time in Lexington, she used her leadership and organizational skills and served as the founding President of the Pine Meadow Neighborhood Association. She worked tirelessly with city councilmembers to successfully advocate for issues important to the neighborhood. She was also well-known in the neighborhood for organizing and hosting annual Halloween parties and Christmas cookie decorating events for all the neighborhood children to enjoy. While living in Lexington, she also dedicated her time and efforts to being the Swim Team Mom at Spring Lake Country Club.
Margie moved to Versailles in 1997 and was known as the lady who lived on the corner of South Main St. and South Hill. Community members always saw her working in her yard, as gardening was her passion at this time. She spent endless hours in her yard and took pride in the beauty of her gardens. Margie was an entertainer extraordinaire, and her home was a gathering place, filled with the aroma of home-cooked meals and the joyful sounds of family and friends. She loved decorating her home for Christmas, and she proudly hosted aHoliday Open House in her historic home to benefit the Woodford County Women’s Club. Margie loved living in Versailles, and she was active in many civic and art endeavors. She was an avid bridge player for more than 50 years playing with her bridge clubs, in tournaments and teaching the game to new players. After moving to Versailles, Margie began substitute teaching at Woodford Middle School and enjoyed doing this for many years before officially retiring to enjoy her various hobbies.
She took pride in her accomplishments, yet her greatest joy came from raising her daughters and being a loving Mimi to her 3 granddaughters. Those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with Margie will remember her go-getter attitude, her hospitality, her volunteerism, and her love of a good laugh.
Margie is survived by her children, Marti (Steve) Seng, Missy (Alex) Zepeda, and grandchildren Emily, Natalie, Isabella, Tyler, Zach, and Emily. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Martha Griese, as well as her brother, Robert E. Griese Jr.
Remembrance services will be on Saturday, August 2, 2025. Visitation will be 12:30-2:00pm at Versailles United Methodist Church, with a celebration of life immediately following at The Woodford Club. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Margie’s memory to the Woodford Humane Society where she adopted her beloved dog, Ozzie.
Rest peacefully, Margie. Your love remains with us always.
