David Harold Hanel

David loved God and was a faithful Pastor and shepherd for the flock at Calvary Lutheran Church in St. Helens, OR. His children, Kimberlee and Casey, were his joy and delight and he and his wife Tracy shared almost 43 years of marriage together. David loved his large family, nieces, nephews, great nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a multitude of friends who he also called family. He had a genuine love of all people who were drawn to him by his humor and caring spirit. David loved his country and was patriot and proud to serve as a Sgt. in the US Air Force from 1973 through 1977. And finally, David was a voracious learner and loved school and any learning opportunity. He graduated from David Douglas High School in 1971 where his wife Tracy was a classmate. He graduated from Portland State University with a BS in Business Management. Graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary-DELTO in October 2011 and was ordained as a Pastor with Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in 2012. David had recently officially retired from Bonneville Power Administration where he served in a supervisory position with the transmission group. David is survived by wife, Tracy Hanel, daughter, Kimberlee Hanel, son, Casey Hanel, his mother, Mary Lou Hanel and 4 siblings, Craig Hanel, Cindy Hanel, Shari Hanel and Tracy Powell. David joins his son Jason, and father Harold who preceded him to heaven. A memorial service celebrating Dave’s life and service to God will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. 8705 E Burnside, Portland, OR at 11:00 AM In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Calvary Lutheran Church or the Knight Center for cancer research.
