James Elton Turlington
March 3rd, 1945 - July 15th, 2025
In Loving Memory
James Elton Turlington passed away at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House on July 15. He was born March 3, 1945 to Elton Gray Turlington and Mildred McDonald Turlington in Wilmington, NC.
He studied at N.C. State and received his degree in Civil Engineering and supported the Athletic Scholarship fund and N.C. State Libraries. Jimmy served as a 1st Lieutenant, 82nd Airborne Division in Vietnam. Later during his career with the NC Dept. of Transportation, he earned his Professional Engineer status while living in Asheville, NC. He was a member of the National Ski Patrol at Wolf Laurel Resort. Later he coached baseball, soccer, football and basketball with his children and other beloved youth players. His joys were being a USCG Captain of his S/V PuraVida sailboat in Oriental, NC and the Chesapeake Bay and well as his home at Badin Lake, where he loved being with his children and grandchildren during his last days.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda Posey Turlington, son, Ryan Turlington (late wife, Jamie), Kennedy and Kallie Turlington, daughter, Courtney (Drew Dull), Bodhi Turlington and Alec Turlington-Dull. Sister Lynne (Jerry) Lassiter, and beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Celebration of Life will be on August 10, 3:00 pm at Main Street United Methodist Church, 306 N. Main Street. Followed immediately by food, drink and live music at Gypsy Road Brewing at 1105 East Mountain Street for a private event in his memory.
