Theodore "Ted" "Ted" Smigiel
September 14th, 1952 - July 30th, 2025
Theodore "Ted" Smigiel, a devoted husband, father, and cherished grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025, at the age of 72 in Northampton, Massachusetts. Born on September 14, 1952, in Springfield, Massachusetts, he was a steadfast presence in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa (Hudgik) Smigiel; his son Josh Smigiel; daughter Stacy Nawrocki and her husband, Spencer; his grandchildren Caleb, Oliver, and Bryson; brother Daniel Smigiel and his wife Cindy; his brother Ronald Smigiel and his wife Phyllis; his nephews Jason, Aaron, Nick, and Shawn; and his cousin Jake Jurkowski with whom he spent hours on the phone.
During the Vietnam era, Ted proudly served his country in the US Navy. Ted dedicated over twenty years of his life to serving the community as a Sergeant Patrolman at the Granby Police Department, where he earned respect and admiration for his commitment and dedication to safeguarding others. His career was marked not only by his professionalism but also by his compassionate approach to law enforcement, making him a beloved figure within the community. Outside of his work, Ted was a big family man who took immense joy in spending time with his loved ones.
Beyond his family, Ted was a man of many interests. He had quite the sweet tooth with his dessert of choice being different kinds of chocolate. Ted was also a music lover, he loved to play all kinds of music on his guitar and could appreciate a variety of different artists ranging from Frank Sinatra to Ozzy Osbourne. He enjoyed nature in multiple ways from camping, going to the beach, and even watching thunderstorms roll through as he sat on his daughter's porch. On top of that, Ted also enjoyed engaging in a little luck with the lottery, reading, and The Wizard of Oz. Out of all the things he would partake in, Ted appreciated the time he would spend with his many animals and grandkids the most. His passions revealed a spirit of adventure and a profound appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Ted was predeceased by his two parents Joseph and Adeline (Lindsey) Smigiel, and his brother Joseph Smigiel.
A future celebration of life will be held at his home in Granby. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations in honor of Ted Smigiel be made to Cooley Dickinson VNA & Hospice, PO Box 329, Northampton, MA 01061-0329. Ted's legacy of love, dedication, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
