He grew up in the Lowcountry, where he met his future bride, and graduated from Brittons Neck High School. He served in the US Army, stationed in Germany. He later married, moved to Columbia, attended trade school and started a family. Hal retired from Shakespeare after 40 years of leadership, friendship, and loyal service. He was a member of St. Andrews Baptist Church since 1994.
Hal is survived by three children: Cynthia Richardson of Blythewood, Pamela (Mike) Griffin and Tanya (Steve) Mabry of Lexington; sisters Inez Richardson, Beatrice Richardson, Louise Cress, and Emogene (Larry) Calhoun; brother Harvey (Sandra) Richardson; grandchildren Jordan Taylor, Logan Taylor, Allison Mabry and Jacob Mabry. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Florence Larrimore and brother Randy Richardson, and two grandchildren, Matthew and Megan Mabry.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 7 at Woodridge Memorial Park (Mausoleum), 138 Corley Mill Rd, Lexington, SC. Memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm. Pastor Ronald "Dee" Vaughan will officiate. Private burial services will be held at Woodridge Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank the staff of National HealthCare of Lexington for their care, love and support during the last two weeks of Hal’s life. Also, a special acknowledgement to his ‘family’ at Deepwoods who loved and cared for each other daily. To his Sunday School class at St. Andrews, thank you for your continued prayers and visits. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrews Baptist Church, 230 Bush River Rd, Columbia, SC 29210.
