Darlene Carroll Gaddis, 93, passed away on August 1, 2025.  She was a longtime resident of Nampa.

She was born July 23, 1932 in Oberlin, Kansas to Ray and Opal Fortin.  She joined an older brother, Alvin.

In 1937 when she was five years old the family moved to McCall where she attended her first three grades in a one room country school and she always said “a great place to live five years of my life”. When she was ten years old the family moved to Nampa.

She graduated from Nampa High School in 1950.  For a year she attended business college to become a secretary.  She worked at Sunny Ridge Elementary for 25 years.  She always referred to the students as “My Kids”, all 500 of them.

On July 29, 1955 she married Dean Gaddis in Nampa.  They were married 38 years.

Darlene’s hobbies were anything that would be fun, including: reading, traveling, yard sales and camping in her motorhome.  She was a Red Hat Lady and was a volunteer at the Nampa Civic Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean; mother, Opal, and step-father, Frankie Franklin; father, Ray, and step-mother, Bessie Fortin and brother, Alvin.  She is survived by her two children: Susan Carlberg and Robert “Bob” Gaddis; four grandchildren: eight great grandchildren whom she loved lots. She was very proud of all of them and enjoyed all of their activities they were involved in, and hardly ever missed one.  She was thankful they lived nearby in their growing up years.

A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, August 15th at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Caldwell.  Services are under the care of Accent Funeral Home and Cremation, Meridian.

We Entrusted Darlene Gaddis's Care To

Accent Funeral Home

A local landmark in Meridian, Accent Funeral Home has been serving the community since 1986. The business was first established with a vision to offer services in a comfortable, homelike atmosphere. This vision is reflected in our building, a Tudor-style home built in 1938 for a local postman. When remodeling the house to accommodate the funeral home, much care was taken to preserve the original architectural integrity of the building. The Accent Funeral Home holds a special relationship with the Meridian community and is sensitive to the area’s changing needs, providing service and friendship to comfort those we serve....
