Ora Belle (Doss) Ramey Halliday

December 21, 1934 - August 5, 2025

Ora Belle (Doss) Ramey Halliday, age

90, was born at home in Fraziers

Bottom, West Virginia, on December 21, 1934. The fourth of six siblings, she enjoyed life on the family farm before moving to Point Pleasant, WV, for high school. She worked in the office of a friend's father and babysat to earn extra money during high school, setting the stage for what would be a long and varied career. Known as "Willie" to family and friends, Ora graduated from Point Pleasant High School in 1950. She attended flight attendant school for a brief time before marrying Robert Ramey in 1954. Ora and Bob lived in Baltimore, Ohio, where she first worked for the gas company, and eventually started work as a clerk at the Baltimore Post Office, where she advanced up to interim postmaster. Ora and Bob are the parents of Cheryl

Lynette Cushman, Sandra Jean Kimmel (David), and Robert Kyle Bruce Ramey (Phyllis).

Ora and Bob later divorced, and Ora did a phenomenal job raising three kids as a single mother for many years in Heath, Ohio. She attended OSUNewark campus and received her degree while never missing family and school events of her children. She married James William Halliday of Granville, Ohio, in August 1973. This union added six more children to the -family: Jeffrey Davis Halliday

(Connie), Jan Elizabeth Boston,

Jaqueline Daley Diaz, James William

Halliday Jr. (Karen), Jennifer Serena -Costantino (Marc), and Jonathan Rhine Halliday.

Ora worked for Holophane in Newark,

Ohio for several years before she and

Jim bought and managed the Arcade

Beauty Salon in downtown Newark (and later, Cheri's Nails Unique in Heath). They retired and moved full time to Englewood, FL, in early 2005, after enjoying living there as snowbirds for a few years.

In her free time, Ora was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed teaching her granddaughters to sew. She loved playing tennis, attending Red Hat Society meetings and luncheons, watching OSU football, sitting at the beach, watching the sunset, hunting shark's teeth, and making the perfect dessert for the annual West Virginia reunion. Ora was a gracious hostess and always had room for more family and friends. She was a member of the Moose and Elks clubs, and Community Presbyterian Church of Englewood.

A private family gathering will be held in the fall with internment in Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are

suggested to the American Heart Association, Alzheimer's Association, or the charity of your choice.
