Gregory Pasterick, born March 27,1950 at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, died peacefully with his wife at his side at home July 31, 2025, in Charleston, South Carolina. Greg was 75 years young.

Greg was born of Russian and Irish decent, and was a born with many gifts. He had the gift of gab and was a wonderful story teller.  He was a leader from an early age, forming the "Four Aces" with three other grade schoolboys, all who have remained lifelong friends.

Greg was a gregarious man who was friends with everyone. He lived a vibrant life of boundless energy was an inspiration to others.

Greg is survived by his loving wife Nancy Wilson Pasterick, his sister Andrea Hood, his daughter Marley (Terek) Goodson, his stepdaughter Laura Lyn (Jason) Hall, his brother and sister-in-law Brad and Liz Wilson, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a niece, three nephews and many cousins.

Greg was proceeded in death by his father Andrew Pasterick, his mother Mary Frances Kelly Pasterick, brother-in-law Joel Craig Hood, and niece Mary Frances (Molly) Hood Lowry.

Greg attended Primary School in Fellsburg, Pennsylvania and graduated in 1968 from Belle Vernon Area High school. Greg received his BA in education from California State College (now Penn West) and wanted to teach English.

Greg was led to Charleston, South Carolina for a job teaching at Johns Island High School in 1974 and later taught at St. Andrews and West Ashley High Schools. Greg loved teaching, and many former students would tell him he was their favorite teacher.  He retired from teaching in 2007.

Greg had a love of all nature, especially bird feeding and watching. He loved to landscape and grow flowers. He was a 6 rank league pool shooter and weekly golfer.

Greg was ordained a Priest in The Community of Christ Church in 1975. He became an Elder in 1979 and a High Priest in 1992.

Greg became a member of Charleston Elks Lodge #242 and in 2001, became an Officer and served as President in 2006-2007, earning him Honorary Life membership. He also served as Trustee and coached the Ritual Team for many years, and for many years' the team's won awards. Greg himself earned the top score at a National Competition in 2005, winning the All-American award.

And it was the summer of 2006, while I was living on Hilton Head Island, and was the first female President of the HHI Elks, that I met Greg. We were at an Elks state convention in Greenville. We were introduced to each other by friends in common, and I remember thinking what a beautiful voice he has. He was a great dancer and a sharp dresser. (Young adults called him "drip".) But what most impressed me was that he was a well-spoken gentleman. By the end of the convention, I had hoped we'd run into each other, and we did! We exchanged business cards and went our separate ways. It was 6 months later when he called me. I immediately recognized his voice. From that day on, we chatted and we emailed regularly and tried to see each other every few weeks. We dated long distance for a couple of years until I could relocate to Charleston, and the rest is history!

Greg was a caregiver in every sense of the word. He honored his father's wish to see that his mother was taken care of upon his passing. He was a good and loyal friend, with many friendships lasting more than 50 years. He loved his family. He cared about his students and his community. He gave his time and his talents in service.

A Celebration of his Life is life will be held at the Charleston Elks Lodge #242 Recreation site (1113 Sam Rittenburg Rd. Charleston, SC) on Saturday, September 27th beginning at 4 pm.

All are welcome to attend to share your stories of Greg.
