Frederick W. (Rick) Goodale, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, August 5, surrounded by family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred (F.W. Goodale, Sr.) and Joan Goodale Landy, and his brother Brett.  He is survived by his brother Mark and sisters Wendy and Char.  He is also survived by his longtime partner in life, Jeanie Roggy, and former wife Cathy Goodale and their two children, Todd of Prescott, Az. and Shanna of Denver, three grandchildren and one great granddaughter plus Jeanie’s two daughters, Amy (Jeremy Pett) and Erin (Seth Austin) and five bonus grandchildren, all in Loveland.

Rick was born in Denver on September 11, 1941.  He grew up in Lakewood and school system.  He was elected head boy in junior high school.   His high profile continued at Lakewood High School where he was an all-conference athlete in football, basketball and track at Lakewood High.  He was also student body president at Lakewood High his senior year in 1959.

Rick graduated from Monmouth College in Monmouth, Il. In 1963 with studies that were heavy in the sciences.  He played center on the basketball team and was also on the tennis team.

Rick spent a semester at the University of Washington in graduate in preparing school to attend medical school, but those plans were interrupted by a severe case of mononucleosis and his father’s subsequent health issues.  He returned to Lakewood.

This led Rick to eventually enter the insurance business, first with The Hartford and then with Koelbel and Company in Denver.   In the late 1960’s Rick moved from insurance to selling commercial real estate at Koelbel and Company.  He joined Van Schaack and Co. in Fort Collins in late 1974.  He managed the Fort Collins office for three years before opening his own office in 1981.  He was named the Realtor of the Year in 1986 by the Fort Collins Board of Realtors.

He was extremely active in the Fort Collins community.  He served as a board member for Fort Collins Junior Achievement, Fort Collins United Way and the Fort Collins Board of Realtors.  He also served as a president of the Fort Collins Downtown Development Authority.  He was very active in helping establish the new youth hockey league in Fort Collins.

In his youth, Rick spent his summers growing up working cattle on his grandfather’s Hiwan Ranch around Evergreen, CO.  As a result of his love for the outdoors, Rick was the happiest when he was flyfishing almost anywhere, golfing with his buddies or trying his luck gambling in Blackhawk or Las Vegas or at his monthly poker club.  Hunting and camping were also high priorities for Rick.

He loved backyard barbecues or just sitting around a firepit smoking a cigar.  His true and unrealized desire in life, really a dream, was to open a fishing bait shop somewhere in Montana or Idaho.  He envisioned himself sitting on the porch of his store, sipping a cold brew while selling bait and fishing gear to vacationers and locals alike.

In retirement Rick and Jeanie spent high quality time in Saddlebrook, AZ and developed a wealth of friendships there through golf and pickleball.  They also took frequent trips to Mexico.

Rick was very well respected and loved by many.  He lived life to the fullest and had a great time doing it!

Rick was a true gentleman.  He was honest beyond reproach!  He was loved by his customers and clients from the real estate business, many of whom became lifelong friends.  His word was as good as gold!  He will be sorely missed.

Many thanks to his wonderful care team at Pathways Hospice of Northern Colorado.  They were absolutely amazing!  A celebration of life for Rick will be held at a later date.

In Rick’s memory, memorial contributions are suggested to go to Pathways Hospice of Northern Colorado, 305 Carpenter Rd., Fort Collins, CO  80525
