Helen Marie Smith

Helen Smith, 98, of Greeley, CO passed away March 29, 2012 at Life Care Center of Greeley. She was born April 12, 1913 in Primrose, NE to Jame and Mary (Karas) Novacek. Helen Grew up in Primrose living on a farm. She obtained a nursing degree from Sacred Heart Hospital at Yankton, SD. She married Ralph Smith on August 16, 1934 in Custer, SD. Helen worked for a few years as a nurse and then became a permanent homemaker. She attended church at St. Peter Catholic Church and was active in Alter and Rosary Society. Helen was an avid sewer, enjoyed making hard sugar Easter eggs to earn additional income. Gardening and Bingo were her favorite past times as well as traveling. Helen was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a proud member of St. Peter Catholic Church and attended St. Mary Catholic Church later in life. Helen is survived by her children, Marilyn J. (Les) Wyman of Oceanside, CA, William J. (Ann) Brown of Salt Lake City, UT, Carl J. (Juanita Swetzig) of Greeley, Thomas R. (Cherlyn) of Greeley and Andrea M. Smith (Kirk Montgomery) of Alpine, CA; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; sisters, Barbara, Mary, Agnes, Emma and Cary; and her brother, Joe. Funeral service will be held in Las Vegas, NV.
