Lynda Jean Hunt
February 23rd, 1947 - December 28th, 2012
Lynda Jean Hunt, 65, passed away December 28, 2012 at Hospice of Northern Colorado in Greeley after a year and a half battle with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. She was born on February 23, 1947, in Sioux Falls, SD to Marlin and Norma (Nordlie) Hoffman. Lynda grew up Sioux Falls, South Dakota where her father worked as a carpenter for a living. She attended Washington High School in Sioux Falls (class of 1965). Lynda graduated from South Dakota State University with a BA in education. She began her teaching career in Montrose, Colorado where she taught high school French. She took a group of her students on a European trip that included many memorable moments including the whole group being arrested for trying the climb the fence around Stonehenge to watch the sunrise. They were later released, told to get breakfast, and return during open hours. She met her husband Jimmy while out to eat a steak that he helped himself to. They married on June 18, 1970 in Sioux Falls, SD. Their first home was in Montrose. Over the next 20 years Lynda and Jim moved frequently following Jim’s career with the Bureau of Reclamation, Forest Service, and then Western Area Power Association. Before settling in Loveland, Colorado Lynda lived in Grants Pass and Hillsborough, Oregon; Phoenix, Arizona; as well as Buena Vista and Pueblo, Colorado. Lynda worked from the home, was very involved with the PTA and was a substitute teacher for many years. She went back to work as an English teacher at an alternative night school in Pueblo, Colorado. Each Christmas, it was not an unusual site to have teens with long hair and leather pants dropping off Christmas cookies at the house of their favorite teacher. After a move to Loveland, Colorado Lynda worked as church secretary at First Christian Church. She later went to work with the Loveland Housing Authority. She took great pride in helping others get into affordable housing. Her final job was full time daycare and teacher to her three grandchildren. Lynda was always very involved in her church teaching Sunday School and heading up many Vacation Bible Schools. She was also a Pioneer Girls camp counselor for many years. Her years as a full time grandma connected her to many organizations in Greeley that worked with children. She helped organize a playgroup called Imagination Station and was on the Board for the Union Colony Children's Music Academy. Lynda loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She was a crafter, scrapbooker, and artist. She enjoyed sharing her creative gifts with others. She taught toll painting, and crafts out of her home to adults and neighborhood children. Her creative influence made a lasting impression, leading both daughters to creative fields of their own. Lynda is survived by her husband, Jim Hunt of Greeley; daughters, Erin Hunt and husband Lazlo Chesnavich Hunt of Greeley, Amy Hunt-‐Fruin and husband Ed Fruin of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Riley, Teagan and Lily Hunt all of Greeley; brother, Dennis Hoffman and wife Jeri of Sioux Falls; sister, Patricia Nelson and husband Harlan of Maurepas, LA; and a loving extended family and many friends.
