Mary Beth Powers was born in St. Louis, Mo., the only child of Charles and Margaret Gallagher Ramin. She attended St. Roch’s Grade School, Rosati-Kain High School and Miss Hickey’s Business College. She was married in 1945 to Thomas W. Powers and they had one child, Marjorie, in 1946. She worked as an executive secretary for much of her career. In 1990, she moved to Portland, where her daughter and family were living. A lover of the arts, movies and shopping, she cruised Lloyd Center, downtown Portland and NW 21st and 23rd Aves, where she knew many shopkeepers and endured the taunts of Phil at Escape from New York Pizza. She enjoyed watching Court TV, tennis, especially Roger Federer, and learned the rules of football and basketball in her 70’s to keep up with her grandsons. She will be missed for her wit, slant on life and love of current events especially politics and TV and movie stars. She recently enjoyed her 90th birthday by having pancakes at Elmer’s and a BarBQ and a margarita at her grandson’s. She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Muilenburg, grandsons Andy (Ali), Pete (Tracy), and five great grandchildren. Remembrances to Store To Door or Multnomah Co. Library Bookmobile ,which supplied her with many books over the last 23 years.
